Washington Irving is best known for "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", but he also wrote two books on early seafarers and the exploration of the world. This rare volume, first published in 1835, profiles such famous explorers as Alonzo de Ojeda, Balboa, who discovered the Pacific Ocean, Amerigo Vespucci, for whom America was named, and Ponce de Leon, who was searching for the fountain of youth.
